ABOUT
Based in London and Shanghai, Yutong is a Musical Director, Composer and Producer working in Musical Theatre. Her professional credits range across both countries and she is particularly interested in New Musical Development, and musical theatre which has cultural or societal focuses.
Since 2024, Yutong has been Musical Director on the SIX UK and International Tour. Before this, she was the Andrew Lloyd Webber Associate Musical Director at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Her debut Chinese Musical "The Butterfly on the Bund 1939" (蝶变), for which she is Composer/Arranger/Musical Supervisor/Producer, opened in January 2023, and has played two sold-out runs at the Shanghai Grand Theatre, and is currently on a Chinese National Tour; the show is supported by the prestigious Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation. The show makes history as the first Chinese language musical to be licensed abroad, and enjoyed a successful 3 month run in Seoul, South Korea in 2025 with an average 95% box office. Yutong is the co-founder of IRIStage theatre company in Shanghai. She has composed several other musicals playing in china.
Apart from her work as an MD and composer, her credits include producing the Chinese language premiere of "In Clay" (Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre), the Chinese premiere of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" (FANCL center Shanghai), and cultural consultancy work with Punchdrunk Enrichment's international tour of "The Lost Lending Library". , Yutong works regularly in performing arts education, licensing and production and maintaining theatric links between China and UK.
